THREE -TEARS IK GAOL. THEFT OF -5000. (Received 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. William Benjamin, an accountant, wai sentenced to three years' imprisonment for robbing his late employers, Messrs Robinson and Vincent, Sydney, of ovei £5000. Evidence showed he is the victim of the gambling mania. He was employed by a number of leading firms, and earned £3000 to £4000 per annum. He started plunging on horse races, until he was £5000 to the bad, and took this amount of money to pay his debts. Then be worked his way as an ordinary seaman to America, wher» lie was arrested, penniless.— (A. and N.Z.)
