Described as a "Sunday drunk,-"' Joel James Saxon (5o), was fined 10/, or 48 hours. A third offender Ernest Reid (31), who did not appear, had to forfeit his bail £3. AW OPPORTUNITY LOST. Another second offender, Robert Henry Johnston (28), was fined 10/, or in default 48 hours. He was further charged with being an idle and disorderly person. "This is the man who was before you on January 4 on a charge of vagrancy," said Senior-Detective Hammond. A plea of guilty was entered by Henry Charles Rhodes (26), when charged with being found drunk on Takapuna Racecourse on Saturday, refusing to quit the booth when requested, using obscene language, and further with resisting Constable Wilkins. Senior-Sergeant Rawle said that Rhodes was in tho booth with his coat off. He was wanting to fight all and sundry. For using obscene language lis was fined £5 or 14 days, and on all the other charges he was convicted and discharged, and order to pay witnesses' expenses. As accused, who came from the King Country only had 15 7/, and the fine and expenses totalled £6, on the suggestion of the senior-sergeant, Mr. Hunt reduced the fine to £4. FINED FOR ASSAULT. When Constable Hinton was walking along Hobson Street about 6 o'clock on Saturday night he saw Edward Smith, a young man, strike a much older manSmith, when charged with assaulting » person unknown, pleaded not guilty. He said that the other man called him s filthy name, and witness simply touched him ou the arm, telling him to go away Then witness was arrested.
