Enwright, of Auckland, won the 100 yds swimming championship of New Zealand at Wanganui on Saturday for the fourtli year in succession. A film fire in a picture theatre at Te Aroha on Saturday caused a temporary panic among the audience. The operator extinguished the outbreak and proceeded with the programme. A resident of Otahuhu, Mr. A. P. Doolan, drowned in the Tamaki on Saturday night. He dived off a boat after a lost oar, and his body was found in the river the next morning. As a result of several conferences the Sawmillers' Association has offered employees a slight increase on the present minimum wage. The offer has still to be considered by the union.
