BOMBSHELL FOR SOCIETY.

PEER'S DAUGHTER'S WORK. JOINS SALVATION ARMY. ( Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 27. A bombshell fell in Society on the discovery that Lord Kinnaird's eldest daughter was among the speakers at a Salvation Army gathering, and has been a secretary and an active worker in the slums for the past two years, during which she has reached captain's rank. Her superior officers describe the fairhaired, blue bonneted captain as efficient and humble and overwhelmingly shy. She is happiest when sympathising with the poorest East Enders. The children of the slums love her.— (A. and N.Z.)
