DEVASTATION SWINDLES.
lA FRENCH BRIDGE BUILDER. ALLEGED WICKED FRAUD. MULTIPLICATION OF PAYMENT (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, January 25. Further revelations in connection with the devastation scandals show that a contractor named Frot claimed compensation in connection with the Canal dv Xord. in the Lens area, which he was constructing in 11H4. Although he had received four-fifths of the value of the materials used on the canal before the war, Krot has since ,been allowed indemnity for tbe loss of these materials, which he assessed at seven times the pre-war value. Frot got 28,000,000 francs, including 215,000 francs for the cost of drawing up a statement of claim, though this was done in his own office without expert assistance. Finally Frot rebought the canal material on exceptionally good terras and resold the material for reconstruction purposes. The. Ministry of Works has entered an action against him.— ("Times.")
