SATURDAY'S PLAY. THIRD ROUND. In the third draw of the Inter-section play the four teams with no lives lost were drawn against each other:— Pilkington v. Maher, and Lamb v. Wright. The one-llfcrs were drawn: Russell v. Clarke, Wakerley v. Truscott, Kilgour v. Pearce, and Garry v. Parsons.

West End. • In the game between I'ilklngton and , Maher, the former started badly in the first , three beads, but made a recovery and got : the lead, and with the assistance of a lire-lit , of five in the fourteenth head got to the position of 18—12 on the fifteenth head, , and increased it by one In the next. On the seventeenth head. Pilkington • secured live shots, and on the eighteenth head, one, making the game: Maher 18, i Pilkington 10. Pilkington secured one on the nineteenth head. On the twentieth head Qualthrough drew very close with Ills first, only to be displaced by Scott for shot. with his second bowl trailed the jack, and lay shot, but Ure drew right on top, and lay shot. Mclntyre just failed to secure shot with his first, and ran over with his second. Bremner failed to draw nenr with cither bowls. Pilkington was too strong with his first, as was Maher. Pilkington and Maher were both short, giving one to Maher. and making the score 20—19. Qualthrough drew two shots. Ure was about six feet short with his first Lovcridge drew another shot. Ure Just failed to get up with his. Bremner Just failed to be up with his first. Mclntyre drew n benutv. and trailed the jack for 5. Mclntyre with his second played short to block the draw. Maher with his first ran down into the head and displaced one of the counters. Pilkington played a "Scotch' one with his first, and Maher elected to draw the shot, but only succeeded in getting second shot, making the final score: Pilkington 21, Maher 19. St. Hclier's v. Rocky Nook. ! In the game between Rnssell (St. Heller's) and Clarke (Rocky Nook) the former got the first two heads with singles. Then Clarke got a three. Russell evened at the next, but Clarke added n couple of nice fours. At the seventh Rnssell was lying two when the sklpß went to the mat. Clarke sent up a beauty which missed first position by nn inch, leaving Russell with one. Clarke 11, Russell 4. The eighth and tenth went to Russell for two each, Clarke getting one at the ninth. At the eleventh Clarice was two up when the skips went to the mat. Russell was short and Clarke was wide, nnd the head was not altered. Clarke won the twelfth head, getting one, and Russell got one at the thirteenth, the score being 15—9 in favour of Rocky Nook. A sensational incident occurred on the last head. Ilocky Nook had been lending all the way, and were 0 up on the cant, but they all missed the draw on Hie last head, and St. Heller's were lying the whole 7 that they wanted for a win. Harry Clarke eauie at it with his last bowl and burnt the jac*. On the re-play the bowls were well mixed, but Clarke drew the , absolute shot, and Rocky Nook won by 7. Dominion Road v. Carlton.

Wakerlcy (Dominion Road) and Truscott (Carlton) scored fairly evenly up to the first seven heads, when the score was S—4 in favour of the former. For six ends the score had been in favour of Truscott, with five ones uud a three, when Wakerley at the eleventh got a two. Good drawing nt the thirteenth and fourteenth gave Carlton four and three respectively. The fourteenth head was a good one, which gave Wakerley two. Truscott 16, Wakerlcy 9. At the fifteenth head Dominion Road drew five shots. Wnkerley put in two guards, each of which Truscott removed, but without altering the score. By the sixteenth bend Carlton was leading only by one point, 17—16, but another was added at the seventeenth. Carlton finished with a lead of 22—17. Carlton v. Rocky Nook. In this game Kilgour (Garlton) had a strong opponent In Pearce (Rocky Nook), and the former was leading only by one point at the seventh, the score being 6—5. ! At the ninth Kilgour was lying 2 when the skips went to the mat. Pearce tried to draw the kitty over but fniled. At the twelfth Pearce (skip) blocked the head, and got a one, making tbe score 9 all. At the thirteenth Kilgour lay one when the skips went up, and Pearce failed to alter inntters. At the fourteenth Kilgour was lying 5 when Pearce drew the Jack for 1. 10 all. , Of the next five heads four went to Kilgour. ! who stood 16—11 at the nineteenth. .The game ended 10 —13 In favour of Kilgour. Ponsonby v. Ponsonby.

There was considerable Interest taken In the gnme between the two Ponsonby teams skipped by Garry and Parsons. Garry begun with a single, and then Parsons got a couple of 2's. At the fifth head Garry was lying two when the opposing skip, in shifting the jack, sent It among Garry s timber, giving him 0. Parsons, on a measure, got 2 at the eleventh, and the score wns 11—8 In favour of Garry. When the skips went up nt the twelfth Garry was lying four, when Parsons drew the kitty for a measure. Garry drove and knocked out his own shot. Garry got 4 at the thirteenth, and Parsons 2 at the fourteenth, making the score 15—11 in favour of Garry. At the seventeenth Parsons was lvlng 2 on the ditch, when Garry succeeded In knocking one out. Garry 20^-12. Garry maintained his lead and won by 21—10.

Onehunga v. Carlton.

The inter-section play had reached an interesting stage when Onehunga met Carlton in the third round. Both sides had secured a win in each of the first two rounds. the teams being:—Onehunga: Williams, T. S. Bassett, XV. Hills, E. B. Wright. Carlton: W. Culley, F. Wilson, A. W Blanchard, S. E. Lamb. The first few heads were marked by frequent changes in positlou, und then Onehunga by souring o.i five consecutive beads up to the thirteenth stood 13—8, nnd for two heads it was again shot and shot about.

On the fifteenth head Culley was shot, just jack high, with Onehunga three or lour seconds, when Wright pushed on in for shot. Lamb overran with his first, nnd then rested it for two. All were nicely round it on the sixteenth, undi Blanchard drew the shot with his first, and then lilockcd the draw. Hils Icanie at It with a fast run, rubbed off a short one. and picked out the shot. Wright tried to add another, but sprang out his own shot, which he had the good fortune to replace with his last. Onehunga were lying 3on the seventeenth, when Blanchard drew second shot, and Lnml> rested the shot bowl for two, nnd drew a third with his last, making Carlton 14 to 15. Williams drew a touchci on tbe eighteenth, and then pushed it n few inches for two, but Wilson drew two seconds, and Lamb made the only alteration in the head by pushing out the tou her for shot, making the score 15 to 15, aud three heads to go. Bowls were nicely spread round in the nineteenth, when Blanchard improved Carlton's counter by drawing two more, to which Lamb added the fourth with the absolute shot, and Wright saved two of them with his last, leaving Carlton in the lead for the first time since the eighth head, at 17 to 15. Onehunga were lying 4 on the twentieth, when the skips went up, but Lamb forced his way through front wood for second shot. Wright brushed the saver without any alteration, and left Onehunga the shot, but still one down for the last head at 16 to 17. A close head on the twenty-first was almost protected ')}■ Blanchard, when Hills carried the jack for two nearly to the ditch. BlanehaM Bnved by drawing the absolute, which Wright beat by a few inches, and Lnmb dropped short. Wrlgbt drew another for a win, and stopped a foot in front, right in the draw. Lamb ran nt it, nnd ran after it for fully the regulation 15 feet, hut although he sprinted his bowl was a foot narrow, leaving Onehunga winners by 18 to 17.

PONSONBY TOURNAMENT. The following entries have been received , for the New Year's bowling tournament of the Ponsonby Bowling Club, to be played to-morrow (New Year's Day), and on Wednesday :—J. Jury. A. Parsons, Patterson, ! Davidson, Lye, Moore, Buchan, Harking and Rowlands (Ponsonby), Scott, Brebner, ' Green (West End), George (Epsom). Hill (Onehunga), Harper (Otahuhu), Brookes (Stanley). Rose, Mclvor (Grey Lynn), and Fookes (Carlton), and also n team ench from Dominion Road and Epsom Clubs. Further entries will be received up to S , p.m. to-day. i CARLTON TOURNAMENT.
