THE SECOND DAY. ESCORT WINS SUMMER COY. MAN-O'-WAR THE RANFURIT. The Summer Meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club was continued at Epsom on Saturday. The weather was fine and cool, and there was a good attendance. The course was in excellent order. The Saddle Event. Jimmy Richmond and Lord Minto were the only ones who failed to keep their engagements in the Dominion Handicap, the only saddle event of the day. The public went solidly for Golden Hope, and made him nearly twice as good a favourite as Prospect, with King Lear, Blair Audubon, Johnny Golddust and Anselm next in request. Johnny Golddust was soon in front, and piloted the field past the stand from Golden Hope, Ben Wallace, King Lear, Anslem and Rua Pere. Johny Golddust was still in charge along the back, where Anselm fan up second, followed by King Lear. Anselm drew level with Johnny Golddust just after entering the straight and going on won by a length and ahalf from King Lear, who beat Johnny Golddust by half a length. Then came Wairemana, Golden Hope, Bellova, Prospect and Rua Pere. Man-o'-War's Fine Effort. Thirteen contested the Ranfurly Handicap, Willie Logan being installed favourite, with Sal Pointer, Man-o -War, the bracket, Pitaroa and Spring Bell, Gold Girl, and Lady Dunmore sought after in that order. First Carbine lost some ground at the start. Pitaroa was in the lead as the field crossed the top, followed by Lady Dunmore, Gold Girl, Sal Pointer and Willie Logan. As they ran past the stand Pitaroa was well out from Sal Pointer, who was closely pursued by Lady Dunmore, Willie Logan, Gold Girl, Promenade, Kewpie, and Man-o'-War. Pitaroa Btill had charge along the back, while Man o'War began to move up. Across the top Pitaroa was showing the way to Lady Dunmore, Willie Logan, with Man-o'-War coming fast. Pitaroa was first to turn for home, but Man-o'-War simply flew along the straight, and got up in time to beat Pitaroa by a nose, with Lady Dunmore tw-o and a-half lengths away third, a neck in front of Promenade. Then came Willie Logan, Kewpie, Sal Pointer, Spring Bell, Gold Girl, First Carbine, and Prospect. It was a fine performance on the part of "Man-o'-War, and he received a great reception on returning to the birdcage. Nikora Wins. All carded went to -He post for the Epsom Trot Handicap, Aerial Bingen carrying just about £100 more than Peter Swift, with Sunny Jim, Delville Wood, Marion Style, The Squire, Pyramus and Nikora supported in that order. When they had gone half a furlong along the back Bundaberg wain front of The Squire, who broke badly and lost his position. Bundaberg showed the way past the stand the first time, and led to the back, where he broke, and Nikora became the pilot from Delville Wood, Speculator, Sunny Jim and Sebisca. The same order was maintained passing the stand for the last time, and as they ran along the back Nikora was in front of Delville Wood and Sunny Jim. Nikora came into the straight ahead of Delville Wood, and, going on, won pulUng up by a length from Sunny Jim, who beat Delville Wood in the run home by two lengths. Bundaberg was fourth, and then followed The Squire, Pyramua, Peter Swift, Mangautu and Marion Style. The Concluding Event

Conscript led into the straight and going past the stand, follciwed by La Fayette, Rockaway, Pakoti, and Profiteer. Conscript was in front of Pakoti, Profiteer and Logan Queen along the back and into the straight, where Pakoti came through and beat Conscript by a length, with Harold Junior, who came fast in the last bit, two lengths away, third, half a length in front of Lenglen. Then came Logan Queen, Master Councillor and Her Ladyship. The Totalisator. The totalisator handled the sum oi £ 69,500 10/, compared with £53,402 10/, an increase of £16,098 on last year's

MANAWATU RACES.
TROTEST AGAINST GERANIAL UPHELD BY STEWARDS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") PALMERSTON NORTH, Sunday. \ The third day of tbe Manawatu Racing . Club's Summer Meeting was held yesterday i in fine weather. There was a fair attendance. The totalisator investments amounted to -35:528, against £31,170 for the corresponding day last year. The total for tue meeting was £122,985, as compared with £1_4,2""0 last year, a decrease o£ £1285. Geranial Too Good. Benmure was the only withdrawal from the Westbury Handicap. 14 starting, ueranial was made about a £130 better favourite than Last Orust. There was also solid backing for Ilene, Mavis and Cusluit. The start was of an uneven nnture, Geranial getting the best of it, while Ityla hung badly. When they had settled down Geranial was in front from Last Crust, Martinique and Cushat. There was little change in the positions until the straight was reached, where Thurles ran up to the leaders, followed by Solrlno. Geranial stalled off a challenge by Last Crust, an* won nlcelv by half a length, with Thurles a length away. third, nnd Solrino fourth. The rider of Geranial (It. Reed) was alleged to have accidentally hit Last Crust on the nose in the straight, and the stewards, after inquiry, altered the placing, giving Last Crust first place aud Geranial second. Martian Miss Takes Claudeboye. There were only six starters In the Clau.eboye Handicap, Printemps being the ■popular pick and carrying nearly twice as much as Alaric. Martian Miss was nine well-backed. The start was uneven. Martian Miss was first to show out from Counter Attack, Alaric getting away badly. Coun-ter-attack was in front after going a furlong, and led down the hack from Martian Miss, March On and rrintemps. At the three furlongs post Counter-attack was still in the lead, with March On closing up. At the bend the field had bunched, the first to show in front being Printemps, but Martian Miss got through on the rails, and after a pood race won by half a length from rrintemps, with March On two lengths away, and Alaric fourth. _ All Gold Makes Good. Cairo and Sensible were taken out of the Christmas Welter Handicap, nine going to the post. Clandhu was scut out a strong ' favourite, being entrusted with nearly twice ■as much as Bayana. Of the others IteA . Cherry was most supported. All Gold was , first into her stride, but Clandhu soon took up the running, and showed the way .own the back to All Gold and Imperial Spark. , The latter took command at the three lur- . long post from Bayana and Bonny Marlon. , As they turned for home Bayana was in • charge from All Gold and Clandhu. At the i distance All Gold ran to the front, and, i stalling off a challenge by Clan.hu, won by a length, with Imperial Spark a length fur- ' | ther back, and then came Red Cherry and ' Zero hour.
The Final Event. There were nine starters in the concluding event, the Kawau Handicap, for which Rational was made a warm favourite, Lady Fingers being next in demand. Good Sport was first to show out, followed by Lady Fingers nnd Rational, and so they raced to the straight, where Rational came on the outside, and, catching Lady Fingers, which had headed Good Sport, went on to win by half a length, with Santonlo a length away, thlrd, v and Backsheesh fourth. Later results are:— Liverpool Handicap, one mile and a furlong.—Ngata, 8.13 (B. H. Morris), 1; Cleasanta, 6.12, 2; Admiral Codrington, 7.10, 3. Scratched: Printemps and Kahlkatea. Won by three-quarters of a length, with one and a-half lengths between second and third horses. Time, 1.54 2-5. Westbury Handicap, five furlongs.—Last Crust, S.B (L. Butler), 1; Geranial, 8.0, 2; Thurpes, 6.0, 3. Geranial defeated Last Crust by a bare half length, but at an Inquiry following a protest. It was found that R. Reed, the rider of Geranial had struck Last Crust on the nose In the straight, and the positions were .reversed. The third horse was a length away. Time. 1.2 3-5. Clandeboye Handicap, one mile and 100 yards.—Martian Miss, 8.13 (C. Reed), 1: Printemps, 8.1, 2; March On, 6.13, 3. All started. Won by a head with a neck between second and third horses. Time, 1.48 2-5. Christmas Welter Handicap, seven furlongs.—All Gold, 8.4 (C. Reed), 1 : Clandhu, 7.10, 2; Imperial Spark, 7.5, 3. Scratched: Cairo and Sensible. Won by a length. Tune, 1.29 3-5. Kawau Handicap, six furlongs.—Rations!, 9.5 (S. Anderson), 1; Lady Fingers, 7.13, 2; Santonlo, 7.3. 3. All started. Won by half a length. Time, 1.14.
GREYMOUTH RACES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Saturday. The Greymoutb Jockey Club's Summer Meeting opened to-day in fine weather, and there was a large, attendance. The race track was in satisfactory condition. The totallsator investments amounted to £10,348 agaipst £10,839 on the same day.last year.
