COMMONWEALTH LINE.
MR. LARKIN S REJOINDER. SYDNEY, December 16. Mr. P. G. Larkin, replying to Lord Inchcape's comments on Government shipping, says that the Commonwealth Line will survive the existing strain as iong as its competitors. Its past losses were due to Australia's ship-construction activities, not to the bona-fid t carrying business of the line. During 1923 Cou. monwealth ships carried double as much cargo from the United Kingdom as they did in 1822. Mr. Larkin regrets that the P. and O. Line is losing money, but says that the Bay steamers are paying their way.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
