EGGS AND EMPIRE.
A SUCCESSFUL INAUGURATION. ME. MASSEY'S IMPERIALISM. (KcceiTed 1.p.m.) LONDON 7 / December 10. Jlr. ilassry was present at a luncheon presided over by Sir James Allen to celebrate the arrival of the first commercial, consignment of New Zealand «£2S to England. The shipments consisted of sixteen hundred and fifteen hundred boxes respectively, under the auspices of the New Zealand Co-operatives. They arrived in excellent condition, and realised for the producer fifteen and eighteen pence per dozen respectively. Owing to the shortage of English eggs the consignments were welcomed by the market, which could have absorbed much larger shipments of eggs in equal condition to to-day's.
The speeches emphasised the possibilities of an extensive trade. The New Zealand Co-operatives' representative emphasised the fact that not a single penny for the purchase of the eggs would return to Xew Zealand. The amount realised would return in poods, thereby stimulating the Empire trade.
Mr. Massey declared that there was plenty of room on the English market, and despite the result of the election plenty of room for a country within the Empire itself. (Laughter and cheers.) He, however, was in no way discouraged W the elections. He did not care two pins for the British parties, but he did care for the Empire. H« forecasted an extensive development.— (Keuter.)
