BUOYANT REVENUE.
EIGHT MONTHS' FIGURES.
INCREASE OF £1,052,000. LAND TAX SHOWS A DECREASE. (By Telegraph.— Preie Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, actingWiniater for Finance, issued the following statement of the Dominion's revenue and expenditure for the eight months ending November 30, showing a net improvement in the position as compared with the corresponding period of last year of £1,196,800. The revenue for eight months totalled £14,916,074 against £13,5e3,049 for the same period of the previous financial year, a net increase of 1,052,525. The principal items of revenue, the increase shown in parenthesis, are: — Customs, £4,683.071 (£1,080,416); beer duty, £377,800 ( £5317): stamp and death duties, £2,180,763 ( £12,910); post and telegraphs, £1,755,359! ( £98,069); income tax. £517,518 (£102,608); railways, £4,025,575 (£143,----918); registration and other fees, £110,521 {£ 16,905); marine £53,64 i •£22,069); land tax collected amounted to £493,806, or the comparative decrease of £16S,5CS, with further receipts to come.
The expenditure amounted to £15,----615,329 as compared with £15,759,613 for the corresponding period last year, thus showing a net decrease of £114,----254. Increases and decreases are evenly distributed throughout the different votes, except that the working railway department chows a decrease of £397,----039, as compared with last year , * figures.
