WILL DEFY AWARD.

SATURDAY HALF HOLIDAY. GROCERS AT THE SEASIDE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH. this day. The grocers at New Brighton, Bedcliffs, and Sumner have decided to defy the ruling of the Arbitration Court in altering the statutory naif-holiday from Wednesday to Saturday. The provisioy making the change is in the North Canterbury Grocers' Assistants and Drivers' award. It is to the effect that the area within a radius of ten miles from the Christchurch Chief Post Office shall be deemed to be subject to the Saturday half-holiday. The storekeepers' opinion, is backed by legal advice and the strong moral support of residents. They are prepared to contest the ruling on various technicalities in addition to the main issue. Several of them state that they will be compelled to close altogether it the Saturday half-holiday is enforced.
