DAVIS CUP TENNIS.
CONTROVERSIAL SPORTSMEN. SYDNEY, December 7. Mr. J. U. Anderson, commenting on the controversy respecting Tilden's play i in the Davis Cup doubles, says that] during the first three sets Tilden played; chiefly from the base line, and the Australians won the second and third. Even when serving Tilden invariably refrained from going forward to volley, which was a sufficient departure from recognised practice to cause comment. The Australian players were unaware of the interview between Tildcc ante the American selectors until after the contest. The change of tactics made the American pair infinitely more formidable. In fact, but for the alteration the Australians would I have been victorious.— (A. and N.Z.)
