HOUSEHOLD HINTS.
To make an excellent dish-cloth, save all pieces of string from parcels, knot them together, and wind up in a ball. Using a pair of No. 9 steel knitting needles, erst on 40 stitches, and knot plain and purl for 12 or 15 inches. These make excellent dish-cloths.
Place cheese on plate over pot of hot water, and this will make the cheese moist. If a piece of crusty bread i_ put in the water in which onions are boiled it will prevent any smell.
To whiten a pine dresser after it has been discoloured through caustic soda, scrub well with good sandsoap in cold water. When dry cut a lemon in two and rub the juice well in. The recipe will whiten any pine wood.
To make bath salts take lib ordinary washing soda, smash it up until it is in tiny crystals, pour over it a quarter pint of lavender water, eau dc Cologne or any scent preferred; shake well and leave it stand. The scent will soak through the soda crystals and the remainder cah be drained off for future use. Shake th crystals and see that they are thoroughly dry and sufficiently scented, or not too highly. Then bottle and cork tightly.

After having heard this May was quite satisfied, and now if anyone asks her how New Zealand came to be there she tells them the story the little Maori boy told her.
