THE GREAT APPEAL.

FUND SLOWLY MOUNTING. BUT MORE WANTED. TODAY'S RESULTS.

The appeal to the citizens of Auckland for the balance of the £200.000 required to complete the full amount needed for the erection of the War Memorial Museum—Auckland's tribute to "the men who did not come back" — is still open. The fund is slowly but surely mounting, but citizens arc asked not to let their interest flag. There is only one way in which the full amount can be realised, and that is by the co-operation of all loyal citizens. "They gave their lives—you are only asked to give your money," is the slogan to which all and sundry are asked to respond.

Yesterday the cenotaph was in charge of the V.M.C.A., and donations there totalled £I3f) />/«. In addition, the organisation has collected £30 11/2 in the course of the house-to-house campaign at Grey Lynn, which is not yet completed. As an instance of the "arduous work of the collectors, and the ability or desire of the householder to give, the returns of three collectors in the Grey Lynn district are interesting. One collector obtained £5 5/ in one street, comprised of a donation of £5 and two others of 2/0. In the case of the two other collectors, their efforts in several streets resulted in an equal amount being obtained, namely, 4/6 each. To-day the Rotary Club and Victoria League are in charge of the cenotaph, and up till 2.30 p.m. the following amounts have been received: — Morpeth, Gould nnd Wilson... f.">o 0 0 Mrs. L. A.
