Just when a city councillor is engaged on official business was debated at the meeting of the Wellington City Council, -when Councillor (}. Mitchell said thai, under the new Act. councillors had the power to hire vehicles when engaged on official business, and charge it to general account. Therefore, he argued, it was .permissa.ble for councillors to hire cars to convey them home after a lengthy council sitting.
"But going home is not official business," declared the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright), and with this declaration closed the argument.
