THE LABOUR MARKET.

MANY MEN PLACED. A feature of the weekly statement issued by the Labour Department this morning was the number of men for whom the Department had found employment. Tlie books to-day showed 138 applications for work. 100 of the applicants being classed as fit for heavy, and 38 for light work. Of the number 61 were labourers. During the past week tlie Department placed the following in private employment:—Factory hands, 4; farm hands, 3: gardeners, Storemen and packers, rough carpenters and sawmill slab-boys, 2 each. One labourer and one painter were also placed. Sent to the Public Works were 21 labourers, one engine driver and one messenger.
