THREAT TO SHIPPING.
INTERNATIONAL TAX WAR, LONDON, November 30. Tlie Shipowners' Parliamentary Committee, in a circular to all election candidates, states that shipping is threatened with an international tax war, in which British trade stands to lose, because British tonnage offers the largest 'target, and British shipping will be hampered by the multitude of conflicting regulations in different countries. In some cases even the Dominions are levying income-tax on shipping irrespective of profit or loss. A sound' policy, says the committee, is to aim at universal reciprocal exemption of the earnings of ships of all flags from foreign or Dominion taxation. — (A. and N.Z.)
