RIVAL OF MEAT TRUST.
HANDLING DOMINION TRADE. I- SYDNEY, November 30. Sir Philip Proctor, representative in Australia for the Union Cold Storage Company, which is interested in the Port Darwin Meat Works, replying to criticisms, denied that the company was connected with the American meat trust. On the contrary, it was a keen competitor with the American Trust, and was making an effective fight against it in the retail trade in Britain. He also denied that the company's Australian interests were being made subservient to its Argentine interests. The company now had only one works in Argentina, having disposed of two others, compared with five ■works in Australia and New Zealand. Tlie company was onh* too anxious to reopen the Darwin works as soon as there was the smallest chance of remunerative operations.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
