ANDERSON'S RETIREMENT. (Received 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. It is understood that Anderson's retirement is due to tie expense attached to international tours; but it is not expected that he ■will entirely withdraw from local competitions. It is stated that the champion, owing to losses sustained in his sports supplies 'business during his absence, in America, approached the Tennis Council for £-500 as compensation, contending that the authorities made big profits from his participation in the international tournaments. The council flatly refused on the ground that the amateur rules governing tennis tournaments left tihem no option, but promised to defray legitimate expenses puaranteed by the manager. — (A. and N T .Z.
