DAIRY CONTROL BOARD.
ELECTION TOO HURRIED. MOKE TIME WANTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.. 'IE AWAMUTU, Saturday. The Dominion president of the Xew Zealand Dairy Farmers' Union, Mr. C. Parker, has urged the Minister of Agriculture to defer the date of the election of the Dairy Control Board for a time, on the ground that the time allowed is totally insufficient. Mr. Parker contends that time should be allowed for conferences of bona-fide dairy farmers, to 'be held in every province to select candidates. Instead of a comparatively small meeting in Wellington, selecting a ticket for the whole Island, he says that the dairy farmers should have been, and still should be, consulted before the ticket is adopted. The Minister, by his haste, it is urged, is depriving producers of their democratic rights. Although candidates, other than those in the ticket, may be nominated, the time allowed is too short for communication between the candidates and the voters, to enable the latter to know the formers' qualifications. Mr. Parker denies the statement, frequently published, that the Dairy Farmers' Union endorses tho candidai tore of those on tho selected ticket. ! The union, he says, will only endorse the candidature of men nominated by the producers themselves, and combined in a ticket representative of all tlie provinces. Mr. Parker adds that he does not know any executive officer of the union vtho will consent to nomination. The union's objection to the present ticket is not its personnel, hut the method of nomination.
