ISOLATED DISTURBANCES. OFFER FROM POUCE. MELBOURNE, November 11. Notwithstanding precautions taken bj the authorities against recurrence o: rioting in the city, the people are stil nervous. Isolated demonstrations, espe daily against special constables, help tc keep the position tenec. During a disturbance at Fitzrov. threi men were arrested after a constable hac fired shots over their heads. A man fired a pistol at a car load o specials at Abbotsford. The assailam missed his mark, but escaped. The police on strike have offered t< resume duty on condition <fchat there i; no victimisation, that an independen , investigation of their grievances is held and the plain-clothes supervisors are eus pended pending the inquiry. It is con eidered that there is little chance of th> Cabinet at present accepting the offer though it may be inclined to relent latci (A. and N".Z. Cable.)
