SHIP WILLIAM MILES.
ARRIVED 63 YEARS AGO. To-day is the (>3rd anniversary of th< arrival in Auckland of the ship Williaxt Miles, bringing over 400 immigrants tc the new colony. One of the passengers was Mr. Albert Edward Glover, latei a member of Parliament, representing Auckland Central. Talking of the William Miles to-day, Mr. Glover said that the passage from England occupied 106 days, land to land, and that as there was a good deal of rough weather experienced, and the comforts of presentday sea-travelling were then non-exist-ent, all were indeed pleased to sight the shores of New Zealand. Most of the old pioneers who eaine out by the William Miles are dead now. said Mr. Glover, though their descendants were many. He knew of only three survivors mf the William Miles' company now still living in Auckland—Mr. Robert Baxter, of the National Bank, a .Mr. Armigar, of JPonsonby, and himself.
