"YOU ARE A SPORT."
Axao A J-RTU. wocMMvmzc LOST PUT-SB INCXDIKT. Stories of the happy chance acsoeia-etl with recovery of lost articles and money are as common as those concerning patrons of the totaiisator who change their mind to advantage at the last moment. There is a distinct variation in an incident which happened in the city daring the week.. A young lady from the telephone exchange had the bad fortune to lose a purse containing over £8, but having some faith in the integrity of the populace at large she advertised her loss.. "Not many hours later there arrived through the post the familiar purse, but her appreciation of its return was ephemeral. The purse was empty. Accompanying it, however, was a note intimating that the flnder had retained the money and would like to know what reward tbe lady was prepared to offer. If she would advertise through the "Star" tbe extent to which she was prepared to show her appreciation, ran the note, the balance would be forwarded. Not bothering to consider the implied threat of this missive or the apparent avarice of the finder -he replied to the anonymous tinder that the latter could retain whatever portion he thought a fair nolatium. Imagine her delight and surprise when the next mail brought her tbe whole of the lost mosey with the exception of 1/3, which the finder said, had been retained to drink her health, as she was a sport. The cuTtain fell when the "hello girl" inserted tbe following notice in the "Star." "Purse Finder. Very many thanks. You also are a sport. C.8."
