MODERN DRAINAGE.
SEWRR SYSTEM FOR AVONDALE. One of the great drawbacks to deserved settlement in the picturesque and well-situated Avondale district in the past lias been the lack of modern drainage. The real forward movement of this fine suburb dates from to-day, for this afternoon the Mayor of the borough (Mr. W. J. Tait) turned the first sod in the official ceremony of celebrating the commencement of the construction of the main sewer, in Princes Street. There waa a large attendance, and much satisfaction waa expreased at the beginning of this roost desirable improvement to the district—an improvement only obtained by persistent and strenuous endeavour on the part of the local an-horitiaa.
