Tho Danks fire was one of (lie most alarniiug «>ntbre»iks in the city for many years. Six firemen were injured durhiji! Hio struggle with the flumes, two of! whom were taken to hospital. One fireman, following an explosion, was blown I down a flight of stairs, and was rescued j in a danjreroiiH position when on the verge of collapse. In the Klliott's firo, two firemen were electrocuted. One of them stood on a live wire which had fallen into a ;.00l of Mater. In attempting to rescue him the | deputy chief ollicer, who was in charge of the fire-lighting operations, also came into contact with the current, liotli men \> ere conveyed to hospital in an 'inconsi.'ious condition. Xeither the stock nor the warehouse, which was the property of Elliott's, was covered by insurances. An" extraordinary event is associated with one of the , Elliott family.
