MARBLE FOR SCOTLAND.
SUPPLY BY N.Z. FIRM. (TS.v Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIX, Thursday. Wnen :.:r. .James Fletcher, of the firm of Fletcher Bros., was recently in the Old Country, he spent some time at his native place, Kirkintilloch, where the question of a war memorial was being discussed, and ho offered, on behalf of himself and his brothers, to make a donation of the necessary quantity of New Zealand marble up to eighty tons. The scheme is now so far advanced that the offer has been accepted, and Fletcher Bros, are instructed by cable to pre- • pare the marble for erection and ship it. I The marble is grey with dark veins. It comes from the donor's quarry at Takaka (Nelson), and is being fashioned in Auckland so as to be ready for the j contractor. The memorial is to be a i memorial gateway to the public park. j
