WILL ZEV RUN?
RUMOUR OF SUBSTITUTE. I MY OWN IN NEW YORK. I NEW YORK, October .19. Many confusing rumours are current regarding the race between Zev and Papyrus. My Own, which has been racing in Maryland, has been suddenly ordered to be brought to Xew York by special train. Admiral Grayson, the owner, declared that he was unable to understand the Jockey Club's purpose. Belmont Park, where the race will be held, is a rumour factory. It is said that Zev may be withdrawn and My Own substituted. Bookmakers are reluctant to take bets in view of the uncertainty. Papyrus, with Donoghue up, received a final work-out yesterday, and went a mile and an eighth in 1.51 2-5, without showing signs of fatigue. Several experts predict that Papyrus will go to the post with betting even. Donoghue is enthusiastic over Papyrus' endurance, which is evident from fractional timing of successive furlongs. Donoghue rode as though cantering, and appeared to hold the horse in, while Papyrus seemed eager to go faster. Zev will canter lightly in to-day's final work-out.— (A. and N.Z.) ZEV NOT SATISFACTORY. MY OWN MAY BE SUBSTITUTED (Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 19. The selection committee has examined Zev and found him unsatisfactory, but reserved its decision until the arrival of Admiral Grayson's crack three-year-old My Own. The "New York Sun" declares that My Own will be substituted for Zev as the American representative to meet Papyrus to-morrow.— ("Times.") ZEV WILL RACE. MEETS PAPYRUS TO-DAY. (Received 12 noon.) NEW YORK, October 19. It was announced alte to-day that Zev is fit, and will race Papyrus.— lA. and. N.Z. Cable.)
