REV. GEORGE PATERSON. MINISTER OF ST. JAMES" CHURCH. DIES AT HOXOLLLL". I Members of the St. James' Presbyterian f hurch. Wellinfrton Street, as well as many other friends will learn with ■ great repret that a cable was received this morning by Mr. A. J. EntricttU, I notifying that the Rev. George Paterson 'had died at Honolulu. Last evening a I rable was received stating that Mr. ! Paterson was seriously ill. About three ! months aeo Mr. Paterson, whn was I suffering from insomnia, consulted a medical man. who ordered a rest of three months. This was promptly granted by the rhurch. and Mr. Paterson left on a health-recruiting trip by the Niagara on September 11. He cabled I from Suva that he was in good health, jbut, died a month to the day from the time he loft Auckland. Prior to leaving. Mr. Paterson was tendered a fare••vell social by the members and adherents of St. James' Church. Mr. Paterson left Scotland three years ago with the intention, of settling in California. but later determined to come on to New Zealand. The pulpit of St. James' Church was vacant at the time of hia arrival, and he accepted a call to that charge, being welcomed there on 28th of July. 1921. During the short time •he has had charge of St. James' Church, ! Mr. Paterson endeared himself to the 'people as he had a strong personality, i ; and was a preacher of the evangelical ' type. His home was ever open to visijtors, as both Mr. and Mrs. Paterson were very hospitably inclined. The conpregation at St. .Tames' Church has I doubled since Mr. Paterson took charge, • added to which there was a similar mll crease of the revenue. I Deceased is survived by his wife and i six children. The body will be brought Ito Auckland by the Niagara. MRS. T. TURBOTT. I Much regret is felt at Stanley Bay at the death of Mrs. Turbott. wife of Mr. Thomas Turbott. supervising teacher j under the Auckland Kuucation Board. The deceased lady, who had been stricken with a waiting disease, was of a rpfined. hopeful disposition, and put up ! a jrallant fight for life for a long period. ■ being much comforted and sustained by I her many friends who had become much attached to her on account of her persistent faith that she would eventually J recover hf-r health. She leaves three ! vounsr children. and""muth sympathy will Ibo felt for the bereaved husband, who is Iso well known in many pane of the large J Auckland educational district.
