WHAKATANE HOSPITAL.
OPENING CEREMONY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Thursday. The Whakatane Hospital was opened to-day by Sir Maui l'omare, who congratulated the district on the great progress it is making, and on tts fine, up-to-date hospital. Sir Maui described it as tiie best in the Southern Hemisphere for a place of this size. Other speakers were the Hon. J. B. Gow, Mr. C. Macmillan, and F. Hockly, MVP. s. APeebles. T. Moody, Mayor of Opotiki, F. Drurv, Opotiki County, W. l«i«, Whakatane County, and D. C. Chalmers, Mayor of Whakatane, all the speakers congratulating the Hospital Board on lis enterprise in providing such a fine institution, and stressing the necessity 01 more direct roads and more land settlement in the Bay of Plenty. There was a large gathering of residents and vi= _tors present. 1
