There was a somewhat unusual incident, at a meeting of the Hastings Borough Council to-night, ending in the ejection of a councillor by a police, constable. During a discussion. Mr. L. W. Vowler, addressing the .Mayor. Mr. G. A. Maeldison, said. "I am disgusted at your lack of justice."' The Mayor requested Mr. Fowler to withdraw liis remark on the ground that he was rellccting on bis (the Mayor's) integrity. Mr. Fowler persistently refused to withdraw and the council resolved, in accordance with the standing orders, that, he be suspended for the remainder of the meeting. L'ven this did not have the desired effect, as Mr. Fowler resolutely declined to leave the chamber. The Mayor then sent for a police constable, and on bis arrival gave Mr. Fowler another chance to withdraw the statement to which exception was taken. Mr. Fowler attempted to argue, again refused to withdraw the remark, and declined to leave the chamber. The Constable: Come on or do the correct thing. Mr. Fowler: I am not going. If you (the Mayor) order mc to be arrested— Tlie Constable: You won't be arrested, but will be put out.
