The proposal to send a number of boy scouts from New Zealand to attend thi Imperial jamboree, which is being held in connection with the Empire Kxhibi tion next year was further discussed at a meeting of the Dominion Executive Boy Scout Council. The chairman, Brigadier-General \ W. Andrew, reporting on the question of securing concessions on shipping fares, said the New Zealand Shipping Company had offered to make a rebate of 25 per cent on the seeond-cla.ss fares from £122 to. £02. The Shaw, Snvill and Albion and Orient Companies offered similar terms. The P. and O. branch line from Melbourne, via the Cape, charged £71. The total cost, including transport to Australia and back again, would be about £79. Sir. Massey said le was not satisfied with the 25 per cent rebate, and he had undertaken to make representations to the shipping companies while he was in Britain. The chairman added that there was a possibility of sending the scouts for £S0 each. A letter was received from a Fetone scoutmaster intimating that the parents of one boy had guaranteed £100 to send the scout Home. It was pointed out that the boy would have to be recommended by the local committee. The chairman said the boys would liave to leave in May at latest. It was decided to write to the Shippino- Board asking \vllHi would ]„> the latest date for reserving berths, ami what deposit. if any, would be required.
