MATAMATA TRAGEDY.
TWO GIRLS DROWNED. FALL INTO FLOODED CREER BROTHER FINDS THEIR BODIES. (Xv Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") MATAMATA. this day. A double drowning fatality occurre here yesterday, resulting in the deat of two girls, aged 10 and 15. daughtei of Mr. J. F. Beck. Their bodies wei found in a creek on their father's fan at Okauia early in the afternoon. Heavy rain on Sunday and Mondn morning had caused a considerab amount of wnier to accumulate on paddock near the house, and it is pri sunioil that the girls went paddling i this, when one or both walked into shallow creek into which water wj running. The bodies, which had been i the water about an hour, were found h a brother of the victims Oft apart in 51 and 3ft of water respectively. A inquest is being held to-day. Mr. Beck, who has a contract for cot veying mails between Matamata an Okauia. was away from home at tl lime of the sad occurrence.
