OVERSEA FREIGHTS.
I ■ . i AND HIGH PORT CHARGES. I COXCEXTRATIOX IMPRACTICABLE. j (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) •' WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Wit.li reference to the recent statements regarding port charges and their bearing on overseas freights, 'Mr. Jessop, vice-chairman of the Xew Zealand Meat Bi,ard, stated to-day that the idea of concentrating the Xew Zealand meat tiado at the four chief porta was absurd and utterly impracticable. The deterioration and consequent loss in value caused by numerous handling's of the meat would far outweigh any possible reduction in freight. Indeed, lie added, the meat would dcpreciato more in value than tho entire overseas freight. Shipping was concentrated at a few ports in Australia to the everlasting detriment of the Australian producers, and instead of such concentration making freights less the reverse was the case.
