MISS M. .1. McILHOX'E. » A well-known and highly-respected teacher in t!ii> primary schools. Miss j Mary MelMioiiP. dic<l yesterday at lfer-| residence. Nelson Street, at tlie age of | .->x years. Last Sunday Miss Mcllhone \ contracted pneumonia. Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Mcllhone. and took an active part for many years in social affairs connected with the Roman Catholic Church. Slip has Jipon for a long period a prominent member nf :!ie choir of St. Patrick's Cathedral, and recently received from Bishop deary, a momento from the Vatican in I lie sh.ipp of :i beautiful silver cross, inlaid with wood. -Miss Mcllhone was local correspondent for the "Tablet." : !'equem Mass was celebrated this morning at the Cathedral, and the interment takes place to-morrow at VVaikaraka Cemetery. Miss Mcllhone was born in Ireland, and was a baby cix months old when her parents arrived here. As an educationist. Miss lieUlioiie ranked high. As an Auckland : representative nhe attended numerous conferences of teachers in various parte nf the country. She possessed a gift for organisation, and was ever active in arranging sports and entertainments. Miss Mcllliouo was .associated with Hereford Street School for the greater portion of the 40 years she speut in the. teaching profession. MR. JOHN POLAXD. A well-known resident of Tuakau. Mr. .Inhn I'olnml, diod in Auckland yesterday at the advanced age of 85 years. Deceased was a native of Ireland, and arrived at Auckland in October. 1803. by the ship Ganges. Mr. Poland shortly nfterwards settled at Tuakau, where he remained until a few years ago, when he came to Auckland to spend the evening of his days. At Tuakan Mr. Poland kept a store, and also had a flaxmill. ! For many years prior to the railway 1 reaching Tuakau Mr. Poland had to come to Auckland and cart back his I goods for the store. Mr. Poland was a member of the Tuakau School Committee for many years, and took a keen interest in the progress of the distrct. Mrs. I'oland died ten years ago. The couple had fourteen children, of whom the following survive: Messrs. M. ! Poland (Ellerslic). J. J. Poland (Onejwhero). H. . oland, M.P. (Paeroa). W. Poland (Pukekawa). T. Poland (Maungaturoto). Mrs. V. l.indherg (Pukekawa). and Mrs. J. J. Keaney (Manawarul. The interment will be at Tuakau lon Monday afternoon.
