SUDDEN DEATHS.
I MR. R. C. SMITH. (Ry Telecraph.—Own forreKponrtent.) j PAPAROA, this day. Mr. R. 0. Smith passed away very suddenly at Miitakohe yesterday, aged f>o. Deceased, on his return from Auckland I a week or two back, was seized by a | sudden attack of illness, and his condition caused much anxiety, lie was unwell for some days, and was apparently ; recovering. Yesterday he remarked that, he felt very well again. Ue was -it ting; reading when a ceizure occurred, and he expired immediately. Mr. Miiith was ;t ■ well-known settler (if North Auc'.xlnnd. For many years lie was an active ( partner in the tirm of Smith Bros., anil I managed a store for the firm, his other two brothers superintending the tiinlier mill and bush work. In public activities he served on the Matakohe Rond Hoard. I and was member for Matakohe riding on j the Otamatea County Council. He also served one term as county chairman. At the time of his death Mr. Smith was a meml>er of the Auckland Education Board, representing the north ward. He leaves a widow, one eon, and two] daughters. (By Tclegpi.rti.—Own Correspondent.) i DrXEDIN", this day. j At the inquest on a telegraph mes- ' senger, named Ambrose (icoige Dalton. . who collapsed and fell from a bicycle on Thursday, evidence disclosed that the j cause was disease of the heart, death being due to syncope. \ MR. EDWARD GOODATX. Mr. Edward Goodall. manager to J. X Kutler. Ltd.. died suddenly at the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Wellington, on Wednesday night. % The deceased had earlier in the even- i ing attended a meeting of the Ivelbiirn Bowling Club, of which he is a vfre- ' president, and retimed into the city ; with Mr. F. Mcadoworoft, a fellow- ! member, who left him shortly before i 11 p.m., apparently in good health. He w*ht to the hotel, where lie resides ami had just made an inquiry about a friend who wus not well, when he collapsed and i died almost immediately. j
