Deceased, on his return from Auckland I a week or two back, was seized by a | sudden attack of illness, and his condition caused much anxiety, lie was unwell for some days, and was apparently ; recovering. In public activities he served on the Matakohe Rond Hoard. I and was member for Matakohe riding on j the Otamatea County Council. He also served one term as county chairman. At the time of his death Mr. Smith was a meml>er of the Auckland Education Board, representing the north ward. He leaves a widow, one eon, and two] daughters.
