TERRITORIALS.
EXAMINATIONS ANT) RIFLE SHOOTING. The second annual rifle meeting of the New Zealand Army Rifle Association will be held from March II to 14. 1024, both days inclusive. The first programme of matches, ranging from machine-gun competitions to cadet rifle matches, many of which were carried out under actual service conditions received the approval of the highest military authority at Home, and no doubt is entertained about the advantage the meeting has been to the Terriorial movement. The programme for the next meeting has not yet been finally approved, but it will* probably be on the lines of that for the initial meeting in March last. There will be one important difference between the two gatherings, however. The competitors on the next occasion will" be chosen from the different areas or commands, by mpanft of local competitions, so that those taking part in the meeting will be the most proficient in the different parts of the Dominion. During this month, commencing on Tuesday next, warrant officers and non-commissioned officers of the permanent stnff of the defence force in the Central Command will commence a week's technical course in connection with the efficient carrying out of their duties. For two or three weeks m August examinations in each centre Tor promotion will be held by the Defence Department for Territorials and the Permanent Force.
