POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. J. AY. Poynton, S.M.) THREE MONTHS DRY. John Denehy (36) made his fourtii appearance within three' months on a charge of drunkenness. There was also a. little matter of having secreted himself in a hedge near a cloakroom to be accounted for. .Denehy, it was stated, had annoyed a woman in Albert Park. The magistrate observed that this sort of thing was covered in Germany by a charjre known as impropriety. Denehy would do no harm in Mount Eden gaol for 'three months. "BEERS AND HALF-HANDLES." When they charged Robert Arneil (41) with drunkenness he became quite indignant. "Drunk, you cay; How could I be drunk yesterday when I had only three beers and two half-handles? What I had was an epileptic fit?" SeniorSergeant Kawle remarked that Arneil said precisely the same thing last time. '"You certainly don't look like an epileptic," said Mr. Poynton, S.M. "Well, I am, and a whole lot of Auckland doctors know it." A constable gave evidence as to having picked up Arneil in a drunken State last night. "All right, we'll agree with you," eaid his Worship to Arneil, "and you will 'be fined 40/ in default three days for this your second epileptic fit in cix months. Three days should cure you of your epileptic trouble." QUITE SANE. "This man has been under medical observation since last Saturday, as there were some doubts as to hie" men tal condition, but he has been found tc be—well, quite cane. "So said Senior Sergeant Ra.\vle when Peter O'Mallaj was placed in the dock. "I don't want to send you to gaol because you arc hard up," eaid the magistrate, "but yoi: must understand that you am not allowed to beg in this country, what ever you may be allowed to do else where. Men get twelve months for beg ging here." Accused wanted the magis trate to know that the man whom h< had sought money from was a friend "I won't argue with you." eaid Mr Poynton, S.M. "The charge is with drawn, and you will have a chance Captain Davies of the Salvation Armj is here to take you away and look aftei you for a week, till you find work." CONCERNING A MOTOR CAR That he did convert a motor car t< his own uee without colour of right though not so as to be guilty of theft wae the charge preferred against Her bert Goonan, a young man. The cai valued at £70, the property of Xormai Griffiths, was alleged to have 'been uset at Cambridge on July 19. On the appli cation of the chief detective. Goona] was remanded to appear at Cambrids on August 9.
