WAIKATO HERD TESTING ASSOCIATION.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Friday. Mr. Oldham, of the >few Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company, addressed representatives of Ithe dairy farmers of Puhoi and Hairini with the object of forming a group for those places. Mr. Oldham pointed out the many advantages of the scheme to farmere. In the past it had been proved that in herds not tested and culled ■ about 10 per cent of the cows were unprofitable, some cases showing a considerable loss on the season's operations. The average annual expense of each cow was about £12, and until a cow returned more than that amount she waa not «. payable proposition to her owner. Without testing there were no means of knowing -what eowe were profitable and which were not. This had been proved in 'hundreds of caeee, when as a result of herd testing, cowe thought good were found to ibe inferior and a drag on the rest <j£ the 'herd and vice versa, After a general discussion and ceveral questions had 'been answered satisfactorily, arrangements were made to form a. group in which both towns would be included. A vote of thanks to Mr. Oldham was proposed by Mr. Mandeno and carried unanimously.
