I SEVERE COLD AT WHAUGAREL (By- Telegraph.—Own Correspon<lent.| ; "SVHANGAREI, This day. ; Unusually eevere cold has boen exj perienced here following fine sunny days. This morning's frost is considered by old residents to have been the worst suffered within their memory. One man who eettled here forty-five years ago saye hia thermometer recorded 36 degrees at d o'clock this morning, -which he considered phenomena] for Whangarei. Mr. I*. Hanlon, Government meteorologist, '■ states that there have 'been lower froet* than that recorded this morning.
