A POPULAR EDUCATIONIST

PRESENTATIONS TO PROFESSOR. DETTMAOTT. On behalf of members of the Boards of Governors of King's College and King's School, Mr. V. J. Earner, at a meeting yesterday, made a presentation of a pipe and travelling rug to Professor H. S. Dettmann, who is leaving shortly to take up the position of headmaster of the Sydney Grammar School. Mr. Lamer referred .to the fact that Professor Dettmann had acted as chairman of the Board of Governors of King's School since its inception, and expressed the admiration in which he wae held by members of both boards. ■In his reply Professor Dettmann said that he had gained much pleasure and profit by the long association with the gentlemen who controlled the affaire of the college and the school. The Hon. George Fowlds and Mrs. Fowlds entertained members of the Auckland University College Council and staff in the College Library on Saturday evening. The opportunity was taken to present Professor and Mrs. Dettmann with a solid silver fruit stand, the chairman of the Professorial Board, Professor Algie, making the presentation. During the evening Mr. Fowlds discussed briefly the general position of the University College. There were several items by Professor Johnson, Dr. Buck and others.
