POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M.) : A PEPPER-THROWER. I A lad of 14$ years was charged with assault on another boy. When he pleaded guilty, Senior Sergeant Rawle stated that the lad had gone to a picture show ■with some young companions, one of whom brought a bag of pepper. The lad charged, took a handful of pepper and threw it all over another boy, who got it in the face. The Magistrate told a constable who gave evidence that the boy who bought the bag of pepper would have to be caught, and brought to Court, as hie offence was just as bad. "How much do you get a week?" asked his Worship. "Thirty-one shillings, sir," replied the boy. "You're doing all right," observed Mr. Poynton, S.M. The youthful offender was admonished and discharged, on payment of a fine of £1, and costs 10/. ALLEGED THEFT. David James Crombie (31) was remanded till June 28 on a charge of having stolen a musical instrument, "to wit, one baritone horn, valued at £37 7/4," the property of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union. BETTING CASE ADJOURNED. Edward Wilton (Mr. J. J. Sullivan) was remanded till Saturday next on a charge of having made a bet on June 15, the odds to be paid depending on the working of the totalisator. A MAINTENANCE CASE. Failure to maintain his wife and childern was the charge preferred against I Ernest Harold McLean, a young man, who was remanded till June 29, bail being allowed in one surety of £50. Senior Sergeant Rawle stated that accused had come over from Devonport yesterday with all his luggage, and had gone to the railway station. The suggestion was that he had intended to clear out to Sydney. When questioned by a constable, accused said he was going to Dargaville, in connection with a summons that had been served on him, to appear there on a minor charge. Accused was ordered to report daily to the police.
