FUNDS FOR SOLDIERS.
STATE ADVANCES AS ALTERNATIVE (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Frittay.. Funds having run out in connection with advances to soldiers for house building, the Premier announced to-day that Buch application will in future be dealt with by the State Advances Department. The matter arose because Mr. D. C Sullivan (Avon), having recehvu several complaints from soldiers who wished to build, but who could not pet loans under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, asked what was the position. Ho understood that there was a shortage of money, and he wanted the Premier to say what were the-prospects of improvement in this respect. . Mr. Massey replied that lie understood that there were a number of soldiers to , whom commitments had been made in regard to building houses, and as opportunity offered building would be proceeded With. After that, and when the Bill amending the State Advances Act he Sad described was passed, .he .hought the BOldlers would have better onno-fmity w getting what they required than bel Ore, as the terms would be better. "I Will not shut out the whole of the civil Population for the sake of the soldiers " concluded the Premier, "they will have 10 come in along -with the others."
