ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE.

SETTING DOUBTS AT REST. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. In the Legislative Council this afternoon the Hon. Sir Edwin Mitohelson introduced the St. John's College Trust Bill, which was read a first time. The bill proposes that the College Trust Board shall hold the scholarship funds and lands on certain trusts, and that it may expend the income from trust [ funds for general purposes under the bill. Prior payments are to be validated. The preamble says that the scholarship funds were vested in the trustees to whom the Board has succeeded by George Augustus, Bishop of New Zealand, but as doubts have been raised as to whether the bishop was empowered to declare such trusts it is desirable that such doubts should be set at rest.
