Only very meagre news is coming from Sofia direct, and reports purporting to emanate frni Sofia are vague and contradictory. It is obvious thot :i severe censorship is in force. It is confirmed that M. Stamboliski's village was captured by -Government troops, M. Stamboliski ariel his followers escaping. Reports variously say that M. Stamboliski has since been killed, that he has been captured, and that he reached the west bank of the Maritza. Sporadic fighting is reported Ln many parts of Bulgaria. There is evidence that the Government is enlisting armed forces far in excess of the establishment allowed by the Treaty of Neuilly. The Bulgarian Government argues that they are volunteers to meet domestic exigencies. Provincial prefects have been dismissed and replaced mostly by colonels of the army reserve. The correspondent of the "Daily Express" at Sofia reports that M. Duparinoff (ex-Minister of Justice) and M. GrosskofF (ex-Vice-President of Parliament) were arrested when attempting to reach Turkey, and were brought to Sofia, where a crowd, crying "Thieves," tried to Ivnch them.
