i GUNMAN FINED £10. 1 FOR SHOOTING HEN PHEASANT. ' A prosecution under section 40 of the ' Animals Protection Act was brought against Lionel Richard Maynard in the r Police Court ■ this morning, the Aucka land Acclamatisation Society having laid 3 an information against defendant in ' respect of the shooting of a hen D pheasant at Flat Bush in April. Mr. Wilson, for the Acclimatisation <l Society, stated that elefendant had been J approached by the ranger in connection 1 with the offence, and had given an mv- " correct address and a wror.g name. - Owing to the fact that the number of ' elefenelant's gun was noted by the • ranger, his correct name was ascer- ' taineel after a great deal of trouble. 1 and the summons was eventually served in correct form. Under section 40 of the Animals Protection Act a penalty of £25 was provided for the act of shooting a hen pheasant. The samp act was also an offence under section 0. if • committed in tho- close season. Tt was a general offence tn shoot imported game in the close season, but the fact l that the bird was a hen pheasant made it much more serious. "The Acclimatisation Society liberates a considerable number of birds annually, for which .El per bead is paid" said counsel.
