RESIDENCE ROBBED.
CARLTON GORE ROAD BURGLARY. On Thursday night the residence of Mr. J. H. Wells, in Carlton Gore Road, was entered and ransacked during the absence of the occupants, the burglar securing a good "haul." When Mr. Wells came home, at about 10.30, he found that a thorough search bad been made, of the premises. Investigation showed that eight or nine rings belonging to Mrs. Wells and some money had been stolen, the whole amounting to about £150 in value. An unpleasant feature of the affair was that the intruder had smashed open and badly damaged some very valuable furniture, consisting of a cbest-of-drawers and some xahinets, in bis search for valuables. It is thought that the thief was someone who knew the run of the bouse, as the place had apparently been entered by the back door, the hidden key of which bad been discovered and put to illegal use.
