S.P.C.A. PRIZE-WINNERS. The thirteenth annual essay competitions under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals -were held recently. Haipakl School. 4 The special prize for Maori pupils was won by Hnia Martin, Pakaumanga Native School, Huntly. standard IV. —Snlject. "Life Story of a Dog, Told by Himself": Mary Matthew, Mclmerly College, Parnell, 1; Hetty Smithies, Kniatea, Kirlpakn, 2; George Hack, Grey Lynn School. 3: Moses Peepe, Te Uoro Native School, 4. Godfrey Greene, West Lynn, and Alan McKinven, Grey Lynn School, received lion, mention. 'standard V. —Subject, "Autobiography of a Carthorse": Winnie Emsou, SI.
