ONEHUNGA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The tiOth animnl meeting of Onehunga Ladies' Benevolfiut Society was held last evening in St. I'eter's Parish Hall, the Mayor, Mr. .7. M. Cowell, presiding. The report, read by Mrs, Parker, lion, sec. stated that assistance had been given to many widows and children. Among the recipients of the society's bounty were eight people over R0 years of age. The children attending the Te Papapa school had made a large number of children's garments for distribution by the society. A large quantity of clothing and £7n in cash had been received from the Auckland Commercial Travellers. Mrs. Isabella Hutchison, who was present, stated that she attended the first meeting of the society when it was formed in the year IRG.3 and was " appointed tlie first treasurer. She further stated that Mrs. Purrhas was the first president and Mrs. .1. Powell the first secretary. Mr=. Hutchison was ■ heartily congratulated by the Mayor on the fact of her long connection with tlie • society. for which slm had done much 1 valuable work, and also that she was 1 .present at the diamond jubilee of the society. ..
