CHEAPER COLD STORAGE.

TO INDUCE DOMINIONS TO STORE IN UNITED KINGDOM. (From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON, March 29. Tlie Trafford Park Cold Storage Co., Ud., adjoining Manchester Docks, are putting new rates into force on April 3rd. Tlie object of this new arrangement is to meet the demand for aheaper cold storage so that larger stocks of frozen meat and other perishable produce can be held in this country. Another is to induce importers to use Manchester for their bulk stocks and as Mieir distributing centre for the North of England. For receiving traffic into the Trafford I Park stores and one week's rent with delivery to road or rail, the charge will te 12/- per ton, as compared with the existing minimum in force at all the cold storage in the country of 2R/- per ton, and rent after seven days will be 3/0 per ton per week. These rates are applicable to frozen b«ef and mutton, bacon, rabbits, apples, butter and cheese. In tlie case of chilled meat, eggs and other produce requiring special treatment, separatu rates are quoted. The facilities provided at Trafford Park comprise for: Ico, a 3j-ton per day clear ice plant, in full operation; carton packing machinery; bacon curing plant for imported hogs; and a special chamber for chei'.se. In addition to the above thn charges (rom alongside siiip in the Manchester Docks to tho Trafford Park stores can as it rule be merged in the now rate of 12/-. With the 3/(! rent per ton per week after ■the 'first week we obtain charges which for 12 weeks would <;omo to 50/6, as compared with 78/-, the charge vow in force. All traffic which is delivered direct ex ship at the Manchester Docks to Trafford Park railway vans, and for whirh forwarding instructions anj available upon landing, ui]l not be charged storage rutes, but will hi! ilitlivervd to rail or road, ex i:ol<l storo t TrafTord Park, at tbe saiiiH rnti« cliargcabli; for delivery ex Quay Slicil at tlie Manchester Docks. We understand that these new rates am not being introduced ac tbe result of ftompetition with other uteres, but solely tt'Hli a view to providing a n«w facility ti» increase tlie Blocks in the Home. Country, and so ensure a steadier market, with a view to a consequent economic advantage to the consumer. The JJunrliestcr port authoriti** hope to induce tbe New Zealand tradn to store more frptily in England, instead of holding up their meat, fruit aud dairy prodnce in tbe Dominion.
