THE SUGAR SHORTAGE
(To the Editor.) .. Slr '.7 lv our art 'cle in Saturday nijihfe "Mar' does not explain the sugar shertage correctly, or your correspondent has been misinformed. Tα say that the public are hoarding sugar is'contrary to fact. My average output of sugar for the last two years has been half a, ton ]>or fortnight, but recently I can only obtain half a ton in three weeks, with the result that I have been compelled to ration my customers. Many families whose normal requirements are 01b per week have been cut down to 41b. They cannot hoard sugar, because they cannot get it to hoard. Many a cood jam melon is going to waste because the thrifty housewife cannot get sugar to make a bit of jam. To make a long story short. Sir. our supplies are being cut on". Why and by whom? As Mr. Barker say's' •Tm hanged if I know." Perhaps some of the manufacturers can explain.—l am etc., GROCER.
